Los Angeles, CA–Los Angeles County officials have declared a state of emergency regarding covet-19, also known as the coronavirus. The news was detailed this morning during a press conference.
Although there are no confirmed deaths in Los Angeles, a coronavirus related death was reported in California yesterday, bringing the U.S toll to 11.
Officials in Los Angeles say that within the last 48 hours at least 4 new people have been diagnosed with the virus.
The outbreak which began in Wuhan, China, has seen increasing death tolls. The Washington Post reports that:
“Outside China, the worst-hit nations remain South Korea, which has 5,238 cases; Iran, with 2,992 cases; and Italy, with 2,706.”
Officials are currently investigating so they can determine more information about the virus. According to the website of the Center For Disease Control, COVID-19 is a new disease and they are still learning how it spreads, the severity of illness it causes, and to what extent it may spread in the United States.
