Las Vegas police have arrested Duane “Keefe D” Davis, a long-standing suspect linked to the being the ring leader behind the death of rapper Tupac Shakur. His arrest is due largely to public interest and scrutiny surrounding the mysterious murder that occurred over 27 years ago.

Keefe D, although not identified as the gunman, has been labeled as the orchestrator and shot caller for the group implicated in Tupac’s murder. Notably, he has been open about his alleged involvement in the shooting, both in a published book and numerous interviews and podcasts discussing his gang connections and Tupac Shakur.

The question on many minds is why this arrest is happening now. Authorities have pointed to Keefe D’s own disclosures as a factor in bringing him into custody.

The Las Vegas police homicide lieutenant, Jason Johansson, emphasized Keefe D’s role, stating, “Duane Davis was the shot caller for this group of individuals that committed this crime, and he orchestrated the plan that was carried out.”

In Nevada, individuals can face charges, including murder, if they aid someone in committing the crime.

Tupac’s sister, Sekyiwa Shakur, expressed a mix of relief and caution in response to Keefe D’s arrest. In a statement shared on Instagram, she called it a “victory” and a “pivotal moment” after years of silence.

“I will reserve judgment until all the facts and legal proceedings are complete.”

Sekyiwa highlighted the complexity of the case, emphasizing that multiple individuals have been implicated, and much remains unclear about Tupac’s life and death.

“There remains so much surrounding the life and death of my brother Tupac Shakur and our Shakur family overall. We are seeking real justice, on all fronts.”
