Los Angeles, CA–In an historic move last week, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted to return Bruce’s Beach to the descendants of the Black family that the land was stolen from during the early 1900’s. In 1912, Charles and Willa Bruce bought a piece of land by the beach in Manhattan Beach, California. They built a resort on this land for Black beachgoers to have a place during segregation.
In 1924, city claimed the land was needed to build a park seized the property under eminent domain–although the land sat vacant for years.
