Santa Rosa Fire Decimates Communities & Businesses

(Santa Rosa, CA)–Fires in 12 different areas continue to burn in Sonoma County. Over 70,000 acres have been destroyed as well as 1500 structures–including homes and various businesses.

The fire started yesterday in unincorporated parts of Sonoma and burned into the night as well as today, spreading rapidly.

Sonoma State, Santa Rosa Community College as well as hospitals and businesses have been evacuated as the fire spreads. Over 20,000 people in Petaluma and Sonoma been evacuated from their homes.

Various roads and highways have also been closed. For those of us in Humboldt County, we will not be able to ride on the 101 past Ukiah due to road closure. In addition, phone towers have been destroyed and PG&E says 99,000 people are without power.

According to reporters, areas have been “decimated.” These areas include places like Coffey Park, a community in Santa Rosa that has been completely destroyed by fire.

Firefighters are unclear of how the fires started and are overwhelmed. So far 10 people have died and 50 are reported missing.
