Los Angeles, CA—A two year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department was shot and killed at a taco stand over the weekend. His killer is still on the loose.

Juan Jose Diaz, 24, was in Lincoln Heights near Avenue 26 and Humboldt Street with his girlfriend and her two brothers when the shooting occurred.

Diaz confronted one or more taggers who were writing on a nearby wall prior to the shooting. As Diaz and his party walked to their car, a group approached them. As they got into their vehicle, the gunman opened fire.

“The gunman claimed allegiance to the Avenues, a once-powerful gang that has lost its grip on the neighborhood in the last decade, and said Diaz and his group were in its territory, the law enforcement source said. Patrol cars swarmed the scene after the shooting and blocked off streets as detectives launched an investigation focusing on gang members and associates. No one has been arrested in Saturday’s attack.”

His girlfriends brother was also shot and transported to an hospital. No suspect description has been released.
