On August 3, 2019 a one day conference ‘Saving Our Sons’ will be held at Cal State Dominguez Hills. Watts native and Grammy award winning rapper Jay Rock is set to give the keynote speech.
The event will begin at 7:30 a.m and is set to end around 4:00 p.m. Black youth from middle school to high school, as well as high-school drop outs, those on probation and wards of the state, are the focus of the event.
The conference will include break out sessions, free hair cuts as well as a back pack give away. Pre-registration is required.
Some program topics include “The Marathon Continues” and “A generation that can.”
The conference is hosted by Mike A. Gipson of Carson.
Jay Rock is a member of the popular street label Top Dawg Entertainment, the same label Kendrick Lamar is signed to. Jay Rock received a Grammy in 2018 for his song “King’s Dead” off the Black Panther soundtrack, produced by Kendrick Lamar.
Jay Rock also received the key to Watts in May and was honored by the city of Los Angeles.
