Hoodrat Feminist TV: Using Videography and Social Media To Express Black-Feminist Thought

[dropcap]M[/dropcap]eet Tasneem Nathari, an East Orange, New Jersey Native. She is NOT a rapper. She recently graduated from an art school in New York, called The New School. For her thesis project she put together a mixtape entitled “Channel 69” under the moniker Tazzy Morebuck$.

I came across Nathari via Instagram and loved her authenticity as a girl from the inner city.

Heartbreak and misfortunes while dealing with boys growing up–in addition to watching a single mother hold it down–has now instilled in her a sense of power and understanding when it comes to illustrating her experiences.

A Hip-Hop head herself, the mixtape was in a sense a rebuttal to all the misogynist songs that Black women are subjected to through Hip-Hop, especially the classic ones. She took classic Hip-Hop beats and created a mixtape for her thesis. That is dope as hell to me and I love how creative she is. Above, is the documentary she dropped to supplement the mixtape.

Nathari is also working on Hoodrat Feminist TV, a platform and brand that she is building and I am so excited to see what she releases in the future.

I received my very own package that included a Hoodrat Feminist hoodie, bamboo earrings, a notebook and a USB with her mixtape earlier this year. I will also be dropping an exclusive interview with Nathari this week where she discusses upcoming projects for the summer, her recent graduation and her goals with Hoodrat Feminist TV.
