Los Angeles, CA–Local politicians, community leaders, and influencers will gather in celebration of Destination Crenshaw’s official groundbreaking at the future site of Sankofa Park. The ceremony follows the highly-anticipated cultural hub reaching a significant funding milestone.
Spearheaded by City Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson, Destination Crenshaw was conceived as a counter-balancing force against gentrification in Los Angeles and the displacement of one of the largest Black communities west of the Mississippi River.
Native Angeleno and Emmy-nominated actress Issa Rae will host the event featuring performances by the legendary Lula Washington Dance Theatre, World Stage African Drummers, and musician Terrance Martin.
WHO: Hundreds of South LA residents, led by community leaders will march down Crenshaw Blvd to the future site of Sankofa Park. They will be joined by elected officials.
