Thank you Luenell for taking time to sit down with me, for an interview with Comedy Hype +.

The conversation touches on various topics including Luenell’s goal of moving into Baldwin Hills (an affluent Black community in Los Angeles) over Beverly Hills, her current residency in Las Vegas and how she would like to be the next Black woman in late night television.

We also discuss Luenell growing up in a white Oakland Suburb, despite the fact she was born in a small Arkansas town, with a population of around 200 people. Luenell also speaks on the grind of Black comics during the 1990’s, pre social media.

“Black clubs made it easier for all comics because all comics could come to the Black club. All comics couldn’t go to the white club. We let Mexican comics come in, Lesbian comics come in, white comics come in—but the white clubs you had to really work your way into those.”
