Los Angeles, CA — In a historic and inspiring victory, Sade Elhawary has won the race for the California State Assembly District 57 seat, marking a new chapter of representation and community-focused leadership for Los Angeles.

I had the chance to interview Sade during her campaign and I appreciated her background as a community organizer and youth educator. I also loved the fact she was a foster mother and opened her home to a young woman she was mentoring, so the girl could stay in her school district and on track to graduate. The young lady is now attending college and accompanied Sade during our interview that you can read here.

With a background rooted in grassroots activism, Sade’s campaigned on a platform that resonated with a wide spectrum of voters. Her dedication to issues like affordable housing, quality education, criminal justice reform, and healthcare access has consistently inspired her community, particularly in the historically underserved neighborhoods of District 57.

Throughout her campaign, Elhawary built strong, trust-filled relationships with community members across the county. She garnered the support of various top political leaders in Los Angeles including Mayor Karen Bass. Elhawary’s background as a youth educator is especially significant to her supporters, who believe her experience in guiding young people has uniquely prepared her for legislative responsibilities.

Her work with local schools and organizations has allowed her to engage with pressing educational issues that many families in District 57 face, including the need for equitable resources, mental health support, and college readiness programs.Sade Elhawary’s journey from community organizer to California State Assembly member symbolizes a powerful shift in Los Angeles politics.

Her victory sends a message that communities want leaders who are truly reflective of their needs, dreams, and daily realities. Voters are hopeful that she will champion policies that bring meaningful change, especially for those who have long felt underrepresented.
