South Central, Los Angeles–The Los Angeles City Council approved the motion to extend a $50,000 reward for information that leads to conviction of those responsible for the death of Mikeona Johnson.
Johnson’s reward follows another recent motion requesting an Equity Analysis on the status of the investigation of crimes and violence against Black women and girls in Los Angeles.
Mikeona Johnson went missing on September 9, 2020, near 92nd Street between Western Avenue and Manhattan Place.
A week after she went missing, her body was found inside her vehicle, a 2003 silver Mercedes, near Manhattan Place Elementary School in South Los Angeles. Mikeona Johnson was a mother of two young children.
The public is encouraged to share any information they might have with investigators.
Council-members Harris-Dawson and Curren Price introduced this motion following the death of Tioni Theus, whose body was discarded along an entry ramp of the 110 freeway earlier this year in South Central.
The death of both Johnson and Theus, are a troubling reminder of the violence and trauma facing the lives of Black women and girls in inner cities across the U.S. Often, these women and girls are victims of intimate partner violence, cases which skyrocketed during the Coronavirus pandemic.

The equity analysis tasks the Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department and LAPD to report on the status of cases involving Black women and girls who are the victims of homicides or violent crimes.
