Leimert Park, CA—2020 Los Angeles Board of Supervisors Candidate Jan Perry spoke with millennials in Leimert Park earlier this week. The event was hosted by ForUs4Us, a community organization committed to challenging the current process of gentrification in Leimert Park through events, podcasting and information sharing.
The event was held at Hot and Cool Cafe, a cultural hub for the community of Leimert Park. Here, vegan food is served and the walls are decorated with Black Art, including a stunning painting of the late Nipsey Hussle.
I was asked to present a few recent events of what I considered the most pressing issues the community is currently facing. In no particular order I mentioned the current homeless crisis, gun violence and genocide as well as gentrification.
Jan Perry is the current Executive Director of the Economic & Workforce Development Center and is a former L.A City Councilwoman, serving the 9th district of South Central. She graduated from USC with a degree in Journalism and a Masters Degree in Public Administration.
