Los Angeles, CA–Christopher Darden took to Facebook today to reveal that he has filed a motion to withdraw, and will no longer represent the alleged killer of Nipsey Hussle. It appears that Darden is looking to escape all the backlash that has ensued after it was revealed he decided to represent Nipsey Hussle’s alleged killer, Eric Holder, in court.
Both Darden and his daughter are said to have been receiving death threats since the news was revealed. Darden gained national attention in the 90’s as one of the Los Angeles Prosecutors in the O.J Simpson trial.
29-year-old Eric Holder is currently in custody for Nipsey Hussle’s murder. Two days after he supposedly opened fire on the rapper, born Ermias Ashgedom, 33, Holder was apprehended near a mental health facility in Cerritos.
Although Darden is looking to distance himself from the Nipsey Hussle tragedy the question still remains, how and why did Darden become involved in representing Eric Holder in the first place?
In an Facebook post by Darden the last day he was set to represent Holder in court, he blames Black people for the same mindset they had during the O.J trial and says that the “struggle continues.”
The statement appears to be a mockery of the phrase coined by Hussle, “The Marathon Continues.”
After granting his motion, the judge assigned public defender Mearl Lottman to represent Holder. The lead prosecutor on the case is John McKinney.
When asked why he chose to represent Holder, Darden replied it was personal.
“I defend poor people — that’s all I do. And he’s definitely poor.”
