Los Angeles, CA–Monkeypox cases are on the rise with more than 1,100 confirmed cases in L.A County including Long Beach and Pasadena.
The number of infections has reportedly doubled over the last two weeks.
Monkeypox can appear sometimes 2-3 weeks after exposure, leaving people with painful skin lesions and sores that often become infected.
These lesions can appear on the face, arms, buttocks and genitals. Monkeypox is spread through close, skin-to-skin contact.
Direct contact with monkeypox from rashes, scabs, or body fluids from a person with monkeypox also spreads the virus.
You can also become infected by touching objects, fabrics (clothing, bedding, or towels), and surfaces that have been used by someone with monkeypox and it typically lasts 2-4 weeks.
Vaccines are available at a number of places in Los Angeles including Watts and Echo Park.
