Los Angeles, CA–The issue of privacy concerning drones has always been a topic of discussion. To minimize the invasion of peoples privacy through the use of drones in public, certain guidelines have been set in place for drone use in outdoor settings. Now, however, the police in Los Angeles have the authority to use drones. So what does this mean?
Drones will aid in the departments ability to fight crime, in situations involving barricaded suspects, as well as serving search warrants. The drones were unanimously approved by the LAPD’s civilians police commission.
In 2017, the LAPD launched a pilot program to test drone usage, which prompted pushback from the community.
