North Carolina native and Roc Nation artist Rapsody has blessed fans with another visual from her powerful masterpiece Eve. Her third studio album consist of songs each named after powerful Black women.
‘Serena’ and ‘Oprah’ are songs that make you want to go out and get a large bag, all in the name of successful Black women who beat the odds.
The video for ‘Oprah’ is a powerful representation of Black women reclaiming their power, along with the power of the Black dollar, literally.
The face of Harriet Tubman is seen on the money that Rapsody and her friends use to elevate various aspects of the Black community.
Rapsody raps:
“Give the homeless homies money so they eat well.”
In the video, she is seen walking with a homeless man to a community food-bank ran by muslim women.
Rapsody’s Eve is a timely masterpiece that offers a necessary balance for the current Hip-Hop scene. ‘Oprah’ features Virginia MC Leikeli47.
The masked and mysterious rapper flows on her verse:
“Bank called, said they runnin’ out of commas,
that’s on my mama
I’m steady mobbin’,
posted up ’til I reach my profit Margin,
cash money, nine-nine and two thousand
Hustler, don’t you hear my stomach growlin’?”
In one shot, you can see Black women sorting through bundles of money at a table, while they pass around an outline of their prison reform plans.
The video has appearances by activist Tamika Mallory, who is co-president of the Women’s March, as well as poet Reyna Biddy, who has several poems weaved throughout “Eve.”
Rapsody’s Eve overall, serves as an intimate and much needed ode and love letter to Black America, and Black women in particular.
