NAPLES, Fla. — In October 2018, Steven Calkins, former Collier County Sheriff’s Deputy, was named in a lawsuit alleging that he was involved in the disappearance of a man in 2004.
The lawsuit is on behalf of Marcia Williams, the mother of Terrance Williams, 27, who is being represented by well-known civil rights lawyer Benjamin Crump. The lawsuit is a strategy that would mandate Calkins answer questions in a sworn deposition, questions that he has never answered before.
Collier was fired from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office after he stopped cooperating with the investigation. Collier also admitted to picking Williams up.
Tyler Perry has been vocal about this case for years, posting to his Twitter and Facebook accounts to raise awareness on the case and offering $200,000 for information leading to a conviction.
In addition to Williams, Calkins has been suspected in the disappearance of Felipe Santos. Watkins a father of four, disappeared in Jan. 2004. Felipe Santos, who was in the country illegally from Mexico at the time, disappeared Oct. 2003.
Calkins told investigators that he dropped both men off at the same convenience store after arresting them, but later changing his mind on bringing them to the station.
