Los Angeles, CA–When it comes to homelessness, college students are often hidden casualties. Reports show that at least 10% of college students face what is labeled “housing insecurity” which still boils down to lacking your own home. Minority and low income students, along with student athletes, are all too familiar with this reality.

A group of USC students, headed by Ester Cha and Abigail Leung, supported by a board of 6 students and 3 mentors, have worked to help college students in Los Angeles facing homelessness.

Their goal, is to end student homelessness. USC’s Trojan Shelter is modeled after UCLA’s student run homeless shelter.

The Trojan Shelter will start with 6-8 students housed in Koretown and is not limited to USC students. Any student enrolled in at least 2 units at a Los Angeles college can apply.

The St. Mary’s Episcopal Church where the students will be housed, once served as a refuge for Japanese-Americans returning from their forced stay in internment camps after WW2.

Students will be screened through the organization students4students.
