San Pedro–U.S Navy ship Mercy will arrive at the Port of Los Angeles in the city of San Pedro this morning, to help Los Angeles hospitals with projected overflow of patients from the coronavirus. The 1,000 bed ship left San Diego Navy Station Monday, with more than 70 service marines and 800 Navy staff.

California Governor Gavin Newsom is expected to visit the ship upon arrival Friday morning. The ship will serve as a referral base for patients who are not experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.
