San Pedro CA–Seven sailors aboard the USNS Mercy have been moved to an undisclosed location after testing positive for the coronavirus. The ship is currently docked at the Los Angeles Port in the city of San Pedro.
It is unclear how the sailors contracted the virus. According to officials sailors were tested before leaving San Diego Mar 23.
The USNS docked in San Pedro Mar 27 to help treat non coronavirus patients. The move was to help free up bed space at local hospitals in anticipation of a surge in coronavirus cases in L.A County.
“The surge in confirmed cases, meanwhile, has increased concern among sailors and family members who were already skeptical about the crew’s screening process prior to embarking on Mercy or Comfort, the second of the Navy’s two mobilized hospital ships which is currently treating patients in the New York City harbor,” Navy Times).
