Hollywood, CA–Donald Vincent Ciota II, the armed security guard from Walgreens who shot and killed 21-year-old Jonathan Jackson, has been charged with murder.

According to news reports, Jackson had a confrontation with the guard over possibly shoplifting. The security guard shot Jackson in the back as he was leaving the store on Dec. 2.

Jackson’s family has filed a $525 million dollar lawsuit against the Walgreens corporation. Ciota’s bail is $3 million and he faces up to 50 years in state prison if convicted.

On Christmas eve, Black Lives Matter Los Angeles held their annual mass rally for justice (BlackXmas), outside CNN’s headquarters in Hollywood. They also occupied the Walgreens where Jackson was shot.

Over 20 officers were dispatched to Walgreens, some with riot gear, as the families who lost their loved ones to police shootings and gun violence, shared their testimonies and cries for justice.

BLMLA is calling for a boycott of Walgreens, as well as 24-Hour-Fitness, where Albert Ramon Dorsey was killed in the shower by police on Oct. 29.

The Walgreens and 24-Hour-Fitness are both within a block of each other.
