On This Day in Black History: The Million Man March

On this day in Black History, the million man march was held in Washington, D.C. On October 16, 1995, Minister Louis Farrakhan called for the march and various Black leaders and people of influence helped to make the day a reality. One of these people was Dr. Benjamin Chavis Jr., who served as National Director of the Million Man March.

One of the main goals of the march was to capture the attention of politicians to respond to the plight of African-American men in this country.

Two years later, the Million Woman March happened in Philadelphia.
