Oakland Deputy Hit And Killed By Suspect During Chase

OAKLAND- During a pursuit Early Thanksgiving morning tragedy struck when an Oakland deputy was hit and killed during a pursuit. He was putting down stop sticks when he was hit.

The pursuit of the 22-year-old man began in Macomb Township and he is currently in police custody.

Full Statement from Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office:

“On this date at approximately midnight, Lapeer County Sheriffs Office was involved in a pursuit with a vehicle that started in the parking lot of the County Jail. Traffic was minimal and the pursuit was at moderate speeds. The actions and threats made by the suspect, prior to the pursuit, posed an imminent threat to the public. This pursuit continued on westbound I-69 to Southbound M-15. An Oakland County deputy was deploying “stop sticks” at the intersection of Southbound M-15 and Seymour Lake Road when the fleeing suspect struck the Deputy.

The Oakland County Special Investigations Unit is investigating this tragic incident and Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office is working closely with the Investigations Unit and their investigation.

Lapeer County Sheriffs Office thoughts and prayers go out the family and friends of this fine Deputy along with the entire Oakland County Sheriffs Office.
