Mexican Religious Leader Charged With Child Sex Crimes in Los Angeles

Los Angeles, CA– Leader of a Mexico based religious group was arrested at LAX last week and is being held on a $50 million dollar bail for child sex crimes.

Naason Joaquin Garcia, 50, has been charged with 21 counts relating to lewd acts on a minor–as well as extortion, human trafficking for production of child pornography and the production and distribution of child pornography.

Garcia is the leader of Apostle of La Luz del Mundo, which was established in 2014. Although based in Mexico, there are congregations in places including East Los Angeles and Sacramento.

Garcia was scheduled to be arraigned in court today in Los Angeles where he appeared with two other his three co-defendants. A fourth defendant remains at large.
