Brooklyn rapper Joey Bada$$ stars as the lead character in a new short film “Two Distant Strangers,” written by Travon Free. The 29-minute short drama revolves around a young, Black-man who finds himself in time loop–having a reoccurring experience every morning involving a white police officer as he leaves the home of a woman he met. The film has also been added to the 2021Oscars shortlist. The film is co-directed by Martin Desmond.

Free tells the Hollywood Reporter:

“What motivated me was to try and capture the feeling around the anxiety that you carry when you are a Black man or a Black woman just moving through the world,” says Two Distant Strangers’ writer and co-director Travon Free. “It’s a claustrophobia that we have around our existence as Black people in America.”
