Inglewood, CA–Los Angeles County officials are trying to make sure that the most vulnerable communities have access to the Covid 19 vaccine. This week, L.A County Supervisor Holly Mitchell, along with local representatives, visited The Forum in Inglewood which is the newest vaccination site in L.A County.

Currently, there are 75 smaller vaccination sites throughout the County.

Five other sites also opened in L.A County today including Six Flags Magic Mountain, Cal State Northridge, the L.A. County Office of Education in Downey and Pomona Fairplex. These sites have the capacity to vaccinate up to 4,000 people daily with the daily goal of vaccinating around 20,000 Angeleno’s everyday, according to L.A County Supervisor Hilda Solis.

Dodger Stadium has also been operating as the primary “super vaccination” site.

During the initial roll out, the vaccine was only available to frontline workers who posed a medium to high risk exposure including nurses and healthcare professionals. As of Jan. 21, L.A residents who are 65 or older can receive the vaccine thanks to an executive order signed by L.A Supervisor Chair Solis.

“Over the past several weeks, the County of Los Angeles has administered the vaccine to frontline healthcare workers, so that they can stay safe while doing the important work of saving lives, and residents and staff in skilled nursing facilities, and long-term care facilities.

The COVID-19 vaccine rollout has been an enormous undertaking, especially during an unprecedented surge where cases, hospitalizations, and deaths continue to skyrocket.

However, if we are to ever get out of this dark winter, it is critical that we make headway vaccinating people 65 years of age and older as soon as possible – in line with Governor Gavin Newsom’s recommendations.

That is why I signed an Executive Order today directing the County’s Department of Public Health to make COVID-19 vaccinations appointments available to residents 65 years of age and older, beginning on January 21, 2021 – this is to allow for public health officials to adequately prepare for the rollout of the vaccine to this population,” Solis wrote in a statement.

L.A officials have also held events in Black and Brown L.A, where healthcare workers publicly received the vaccination. This was done to help ease high skepticism about the safety of the vaccine.

District 8 City Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson visited Crenshaw Christian Center last week, which is also currently a vaccination site. L.A Mayor Eric Garcetti was also in attendance.
