[dropcap]H[/dropcap]urricane Harvey has been classified as a Category 4 hurricane and made landfall in Texas late Friday night. At least 10 people have been reported dead and reports of injuries are increasing.
More than 30 inches of rain has hit various places in Texas, causing major roads to become underwater along with buildings and homes severely damaged from flooding.
No prior evacuations were ordered, leaving many residents in their homes when the flooding hit. At least 300,000 people are without power.
Citizens with their own boats have began to assist in rescue missions, due to the size of Texas and city resources being overwhelmed by the hurricane. 911 calls went unanswered and life-threatening calls were made priority.
Many took to social media pleading for help and others posted information regarding shelters and numbers to call for those in distress.
Hurricane Harvey is ‘unprecedented,” according to The National Weather Service and they warn of the outcome if 50 inches of forecasted rain does hit parts of Texas.
In an article published by CNN, “Dallas is turning its main convention center into a “mega-shelter” that can host 5,000 evacuees.”
Hurricanes are essentially large weather engines fueled by the warm waters of the ocean below.
