Los Angeles, CA–A woman was stabbed to death around 1:00 a.m Sunday morning at the historic Catch One night club in Los Angeles. The identity of the stabbing victim has not yet been released, but police report that a 20-year-old woman has been taken into custody as a suspect.
Jewel Thais Williams opened Catch One in 1973 and it was the longest-running Black-owned gay bar in Los Angeles.
In 2019, Williams was honored by the city of Los Angeles with a square dedicated in her honor at Pico Boulevard and Norton Avenue and is the first Black-lesbian woman to be honored by the city of Los Angeles.
She is a graduate of UCLA and holds a B.A in History.
In 2015, Catch One was purchased by Mitch Edelson and was later reopened under new management. Catch one went through a brief name change before it was changed back to Catch One.
Catch One is located on Pico Boulevard and Mullen Avenue.
