Los Angeles, CA–President-elect Joe Biden plans to open 100 vaccination sites within his first 100 days in office. Earlier this week, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that Cal State Los Angeles will now serve as a vaccine site. The Oakland-Alameda Coliseum will serve as another mass vaccination site in California. It is estimated that California is administering around 1 million vaccines daily, but are still falling behind other states. Governor Newsom has been criticized for a slow and confusing vaccine roll out and now says that California will be working with Blue Shield to administer the vaccines.

“The new sites are expected to open Feb. 16 for eligible people who can sign up now to be notified and will eventually schedule vaccine appointments using the state’s online MyTurn system. Both sites will be able to administer up to 5,000 doses a day, said state emergency services spokesman Brian Ferguson,” (KTLA 5).

These sites were chosen because officials hope to serve some of the most vulnerable and poorest areas.

Vaccinations are currently being given based on a tier basis. Healthcare and frontline workers who posed a medium to high risk exospore were first, followed by seniors. Those who are eligible can apply for the vaccine here. You will be asked to complete a short questionnaire to determine if you are currently eligible for the vaccine.

Although there is still high skepticism regarding the vaccination from groups beyond race, gender and politics, those who want to take the vaccine should be able to access the information to make decisions they feel are best for themselves and their families.
