Since the beginning of Fall semester 2019 which began in August, 8 USC students have reportedly died. The school sent out an email this weekend, which attempted to address the deaths by revealing that only 3 of the 8 deaths have been ruled a suicide.
The email however, has left parents and students with more questions, according to USC’s Anneberg Media.
Media, students called the email “confusing” and “counterintuitive,” particularly for not revealing the cause of death. Angela Wang, a business administration undergraduate student, said her family had more questions than answers after reading Folt’s email.
“My dad forwarded that email to me, asking what happened and why there were ‘a number of student deaths.’ Since the email said the deaths have ‘resulted from a number of different causes,’ my parents are even more confused about what’s going on.”
USC’s Vice President of Student Affairs calls the deaths remarkable and uncommon. At the start of the semester, USC Freshman Matt Olson was killed after being struck on the 110 freeway.
