Oakland Singer Kehlani Receives $50,000 From Backstage Capital For Tech Startup

[dropcap]S[/dropcap]inger/songwriter Kehlani has recently set her sights upon the tech industry. In an Instagram post Monday afternoon the Oakland native thanked Backstage Capital for their $50,000 investment into her stealth startup, Flora.

Full details about the singer’s startup are not yet available but she founded Flora with two others already within the tech and engineering world, Alaxic Smith and Reid Williams.

According to TechCrunch:

“The idea with Flora is to focus on health and wellness for the artist’s target audience of people between the ages of 16 and 25. Details of the startup are scarce, but Flora describes itself as “curated green content.” As part of the investment, Hamilton will join the board, and act as a mentor and advisor.”

Founded in 2015, Backstage Capital is a tech company which focuses upon underserved women of color within the tech world.

They have invested more than $2M in 50+ companies led by underrepresented founders.
