Film Producer Harvey Weinstein was being investigated for months by authorities due to claims made by more than 80 women of rape and sexual assault.
Today he turned himself into NYPD and the Manhattan D.A on charges that he raped one woman and forced another to perform oral sex.
“Eighty-five women have accused Weinstein of inappropriate to criminal behavior ranging from requests for massages to intimidating sexual advances to rape. Weinstein has denied the allegations, (USA Today).”
It looks like time is really up for powerful men in Hollywood who have been accused of sexual assault throughout the years. With the rise of the #Metoo movement women are reclaiming their voices and bodies in Hollywood.
Bill Cosby, 80, was found guilty in April for sexually assaulting a woman at his home in 2004. He was also found guilty on three counts of aggravated indecent assault.
After being accused of drugging women and taking advantage of them for decades, Cosby is set to be sentenced in September and is facing up to 10-years for each count.
“Mr. Cosby’s case was the first high-profile sexual assault trial to unfold in the aftermath of the #MeToo movement and many considered the verdict a watershed moment, one that reflected that, going forward, the accounts of female accusers may be afforded greater weight and credibility by jurors, (NY Times).”
Weinstein co-founded the production company Mirax in 2005 with his brother and has executive producer credits in over 190 films.
Following his arrest, he posted $1 million dollar bail.
