Crenshaw District, Los Angeles— “Our Mighty Contribution” mural is a familiar sight to the natives of South Central, Los Angeles. In a community plagued by gun violence and pockets of extreme poverty for African-Americans, the street long mural is a reminder of the strength and greatness of those who came before us. It serves as a snapshot of the various important and historical moments of African-Americans in this country and a creative incorporation/ visual of the Black body. Thankfully, the community came together to support the artist to restore the mural as soon as they saw it had been vandalized. However, the community has been violated. By who exactly, is the question.
